October 16, 2008, the D.C. NA-YGN Chapter hosted Alex Flint, Senior VP of Governmental Affairs for the Nuclear Energy Institute, in Washington, D.C.'s Pesto Restaurant. Alex addressed the group of 25-30 young professionals in the nuclear power industry with his forecasts for the pending election. The young professionals came from a variety of backgrounds with Bechtel, NEI, AREVA, NRC, Capitol Hill, Potomac Group Communications and a few other local companies.
Mr. Flint's discussion covered a broad spectrum of political issues including the role of climate change with the new Congress, the political agendas of both Presidential candidates, and NEI's direction amongst all the political shifts about to take place. Mr. Flint shared with the group some of the positive projections for the industry, such as its growing relationship with organized labor. Mr. Flint addressed the group for 30 minutes and then fielded questions regarding reprocessing, Yucca Mountain and the political landscape.
The Chapter thanks the sponsors for this event, Bechtel and the Nuclear Energy Institute.
